To begin shopping for beautiful dinette sets for a conjoined dining room can sometimes seem a waste since you almost always end up settling for a table that is smaller than you want—and in many cases—actually need! However, if you are fortunate enough to have recently purchased a home with a formal dining room or will be adding-on to your current space, perhaps the time has finally arrived for the right-sized dining set for the new space! A formal dining room is not a given in many floor plans as this eating area is far too often conjoined with the kitchen area in an awkward and somewhat cheapened manner. The effect is to deprive both the kitchen and the dining room area of the space that is truly needed for the very separate functions that occur in each area. You end up with a kitchen that does not quite have enough counter space and food prep area and a dining room that can’t really accommodate some of the larger family gatherings that more formalized areas can.
In an ideal world, the ceiling lighting fixture would be a chandelier and it would hang directly over a grand dinette set—and both would be proportional to the room. Too large of a table and there is not enough room to walk to and from seats without disrupted those who are already seated. If the table is dwarfed by the space, then the room will seem barren and unfinished.
So, no matter whether you go shopping for traditional or contemporary dinette sets, make sure that they are proportional to the space of your new room. A hanging light fixture should sit approximately 30 inches above the table top unless you have an especially high vaulted ceiling. If the ceiling height is beyond 9 feet, set the pendant or chandelier another 3 inches above the surface of the dining room table for every foot taller.
Also, if living in a traditional home with crown molding, be sure that the finish on the dining table is complementary to both the home and other furniture in the space. If you wish to make the beautiful new dinette set is the focal point of the room, then it may be better to coordinate the other furnishings around it. Whatever you decide, online retailers have the biggest selection and best prices when compared to most traditional retailers who tend to have high overhead and limited display space—especially for lavish dinette sets with multiple place settings.
